Personal Reflection
Artis Brown is a faith-driven family man whose life and career reflect perseverance, purpose, and service. Born in Selma, Alabama, and raised in Mobile by a devoted single mother, Juanita, alongside four siblings, he grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work and resilience. Educated in Mobile’s public schools, he graduated as valedictorian of Ben C. Rain High School, where he also served as class president and captain of the Red Raider football team. His greatest joy is found in the time he spends with his wife Kim and their two sons Hunter and Hendrix.
His path to professional success was neither straightforward nor easy. Without early exposure to business leaders, he built his career through determination and the lessons learned along the way. That journey shapes his enduring commitment to helping others. Whether supporting corporate executives, entrepreneurs, community leaders, or individuals pursuing personal growth, he is widely sought after as both a mentor and an advisor. Over the years, he founded and chaired ExxonMobil’s Black Leadership Team, a network of Black executives, and served as president and advisory board member of the company’s Black Employee Success Team. He has also advised the Coalition for Economic Empowerment, spearheaded the Leadership Academy for youth at Impact Church, and served on the Board of Directors of the Beta Eta Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing education, health, and economic independence among African Americans.
A dynamic and inspiring speaker, Artis regularly shares his story of overcoming adversity and achieving personal and professional success, offering pragmatic insights for transforming challenges into opportunities. He has addressed audiences across the country including Harvard University, Independent Commodity Intelligence Services, National Society of Black Engineers, Alexandria Rotary Club, Jack and Jill of America, Thunderbird Alumni Association, American Association of Blacks in Energy, University of Alabama Black Alumni Association, Cross Employee Resource Group, the Women’s Leadership Team, Collective Generational Mentoring Foundation, and the Global Organization for the Advancement of Latinos.
Artis Brown’s life and work embody the principles of faith, perseverance, and purposeful leadership—qualities he now strives to cultivate in the next generation of leaders.
